Fine increase proposal in RRPP areas

Postby BQCL_RPP » Tue Jul 24, 2012 1:19 pm

Blue Quill Community League has received a following email recently:
Dear Community League President, Vice President and/or Secretary of a Community with a Restricted Residential Parking Program,

Please note that the city administration is contemplating some changes to the Traffic Bylaw, including a move to raise the fine for people parking in restricted residential parking zones without the proper permit. The fine currently sits at $50. It is due to be raised to $75.

The city administration welcomes your feedback on this change. Please forward your comments to Ryan Pleckaitis, director of the complaints and investigations division of the community standards branch, at ryan.pleckaitis@edmonton.ca.

Thank you.

Allan Bolstad
Executive Director
Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues

At this point, we don't have any more information available (for example, what is the typical number of parking violations, whether in Blue Quill or elsewhere, what is the reasoning behind the increased fine, where would this money be used etc). If you have an opinion, feel free to post it or at least vote in the straw poll - Thank you!

The fine increase has been approved by the City Council. The fine for parking violation in RRPP zone (ie parking without permit for time period longer than allowed - 2 or 3 hours - will $75 as of January 1, 2013).
