2021-2022 ice rink update

BQCL Facilities would like to let you know that like last year, we will be preparing and maintaining
outdoor ice rinks for the 2021-2022.

This fall, we replaced the hockey rink end-zone boards which took a beating last year due to having to
pull the nets in due to Covid-19 rules in place. This year, the nets will be out on the ice. We also
straightened out and secured end zone fence mesh.

We are looking forward to the 2021-2022 ice season!

Please know that we will continue to follow Alberta Health Services and Edmonton Federation of
Community Leagues guidelines for Covid-19 safety.
At present, the pertinent guidelines (which may change over the season) are as follows:

Ice Rink Shacks

As the ice rink shack is an indoor recreation space, Leagues must adopt the Business Restriction
Exemption Program to operate this space with limited COVID-19 restrictions.

  • This would involve the League checking for proof of vaccination before participants enter the
    space.
  • The Restrictions Exemption Program does not apply to masking. Masks are still required in
    places that implement the program.

If participants are doing exercises in the space they do not need to be masked while doing that, but for
activities like taking skates on and off they should be wearing a mask.
If your League does not have the capacity to check for vaccination proof you can still operate the rink
shack with the following rules in place:

  • Capacity limited to 1/3 fire code occupancy.
  • Attendees must practice two meters of physical distance unless with household members only,
or 2 close contacts if they live alone.

BQCL will be monitoring league shack attendance and mask/distancing on a regular basis to determine if
we can continue to keep the shack open, or if we need to close it as we did last year.

Please help us keep the shack open by following the guidelines!
