By Jennifer Rice, City Councillor for Edmonton Ward Ipiihkoohkanipiaohtsi
Hello, my name is Jennifer Rice, and I’m the City Councillor for Ward Ipiihkoohkanipiaohtsi.
I want to first thank the Blue Quill Community League for providing me with this space to write my first Councillor’s Corner. I’m excited to use this space to share with you the latest city updates and discuss topics that matter to you.
Since this is the first edition of Councillor’s Corner, I thought I’d share a little bit about myself…
Favourite food: Anything spicy.
A song that always gets me dancing: Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! By ABBA.
Favourite colour: Red, because it’s vibrant and festive.
One of my favourite activities: Walking or hiking in a local neighbourhood or in a nice park.
Favourite hobby: I have accumulated a small collection of indoor plants, and some have followed me to City Hall! If you are planning a trip to City Hall, let me know so you can get a tour to see the plants (and me) in person.
A recent update: During the 2023-2026 Budget deliberations, I brought the issues I heard from residents to the forefront which resulted in me voting against the recent tax increases which residents told me were too high and against more spending on bike lanes; and instead, calling for the City to focus on core services, like snow removal, sidewalk maintenance, and community safety. I want to thank all the residents who gave me feedback on their priorities through email, telephone, in-person conversations, and through my online survey.
Staying connected to residents is very important to me because your voice informs my decisions. That is why my communication channels are always open: email me at Jennifer.Rice@edmonton.ca, phone me at 780-496-8132, or speak with me at a neighbourhood event. If you are on social media, you can also follow me on Instagram and Facebook @JenniferRiceYEG where I share updates.
It is an honour and privilege to be your representative. I am available to discuss the issues that are important to you, answer any questions you may have, and assist with any concerns about city services. My door is always open.
Sincerely,
Jennifer
